Genesis 1-11 Bible Study Delayed

I was going to start my blogs covering the Cover to Cover Bible Study 'Genesis 1 - 11' by Jeremy. No one has emailed me to say they are interesting in joining me for the journey. That's OK ... It just means I have to motivate myself to study it alone =) So I will get to and have something up concerning the content next Thirsty Thirstday. Blessings Glenn

Somethin' Saturday 3 - New Testament Books.

Please note the odd reference to Viole is a little activity I had going in my last You Tube Channel, (before God challenged me to let it go, and do something that actually glorifies Him, not me) where I would hide the toy somewhere in my videos, and people could if they wanted too, try and find him.

Not Quite Dead. Quite Dead.

Greetings. Muddy Monday's here, and I've got a ripper!

I was challenged by a brother in Christ in whom I respect greatly regarding my blog statement (now removed - it is at the bottom of the post so you know what it said), and what I said in my introduction video.

I am only publishing the word from my brother, because what I said on another forum, I have said here on this blog.

I tell you honestly, my heart yearns to expound what is true and accurate. I do not want to present another gospel. God forbid that I do! - to think I have misinterpreted the word, and what is more -  presented that error here to my fellow brothers and sisters, truly brings terror into my heart.

My brother's issue was that he cannot agree that we kill, or render inoperative our sin nature by our efforts. These scripture he then brought to my attention.

Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ WERE BAPTIZED INTO HIS DEATH?

6:11 LIKEWISE RECKON YE ALSO YOURSELVES TO BE DEAD INDEED UNTO SIN, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Gal 2:20 I AM CRUCIFIED WITH CHRIST: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

Col 2:20 Wherefore IF YE BE DEAD WITH Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
2:21 Touch not; taste not; handle not;
2:22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?

It shocks me to consider that I have given the impression that we can, by our own effort put death to sin.

I confess then, that my brother's need to bring forth these scriptures unto me, sends a strong warning that I am not being clear in what I am saying. For this I am truly sorry and humbled.

If anyone would like to read the discussion you may follow the thread here entitled Are You Quite Dead? I'm Not.

For some home housekeeping closer to home. For this vlog/blog If anyone sees something that they don't think is right according to the scripture, you MUST tell me, and then present scripture that supports your concern. I will not  bow down to a man or women's opinion alone, I will however bow to God through scripture. Scripture in context. I am not interested in scripture used out of context. Indeed If you find that I'M using scripture out of context. I need to know that too. =)

A caution - if you feel the need to pull me up on something. I will listen, but if you  present your concern in a way that brings life to Law, then I will not have it! So that is to say - in harsh judgement and condemnation. I want to promote 'truth in love' here on the vlog/blog. I will not be pummeled.

Thank you for your attention.

Blessings to you all.

PS: From tomorrow forward I will not rush to try and have something to post everyday. In my haste I may not adequately and thoroughly research content I present. This is too dangerous.

This was my blog statement...

ISSAC LAY OBEDIENTLY ON THE ALTER HIS FATHER ABRAHAM HAD SET UP FOR HIS sacrifice. I'm on the alter too, but I can't stay still! I strain my neck hoping to find a ram stuck in the brambles behind me. When I don't see one I climb off the alter and walk away, but I don't get far. I start walking back.

I'm not quite dead, but I want to be, so that Christ can be alive in me and at full capacity.

Boy o boy this has been a rather exhausting day, spiritually. I hope I haven't overloaded you guys. But like I say in the my blog description on the Faithful Bloggers list I want this to be an honest blog/vlog.

1. I'm a three year old. When Jesus asks me to, "Come here.", I ask Him, "Why?"
2. I'm now five. When Jesus asks me to "Come Here". I shout "No!"
3. I'm eight. When Jesus says, "Come here." I run into His arms.
4. I'm a more of a teen at the moment. When Jesus asks me to, "Come here." I say, "I'm goin' out."
5. I'm often called "Babe." Does that mean I get a free pass into the Kingdom of God? I just have to flaunt it a little, right?

Bible Repackaging

Don't feel like reading? Listen to the audio below. Running Time 3:40.

Today is 'Somethin' Saturday' and this IS somethin'!

I want to look at "The Illuminated Bible: The Book"

I'll try and explore why I not enamored with 'the Illuminated Bible' designed to look like a magazine.

Firstly the nick name for the bible is the 'Good Book'. This repackaging has dropped the word 'Good'. Not drastic, but interesting I thought.

My issue is not that It uses the Good News Translation. I think over all it is a helpful translation - it is being called a paraphrase now, it is an easy read, it was my favorite bible as a kid (Annie Vallotton's illustrations rock!). Particularly helpful to me is the translation's rendering on Romans 7:15-25. So why should I bag a bible version that 'illuminates' a passage I was struggling to understand in the New King James Bible!? Well I don't. The only real niggle I have with the GNT is the word they replace 'blessed' with - I don't like the word 'happy'. The word itself is not horrible, indeed I like being 'happy', but in the context of scripture 'happy' loses something of the divine about the word 'blessed'.

But I'm going off on a tangent. I'll bring it back.

So apart from that, I'm not bothered with The Book's choice of translation. It makes sense in fact. As I said it's an easy read. Excellent for a format like a magazine.

What I found myself thinking about regarding this repacked New Testament - is how sternly should we take the verse '...do not conform to the ways of the world...'? Is taking the bible and glossing it up like a mag conforming to the world? Or do we need to keep bibles up with the times? Georgia Knightly an advocate of another repackaged bible the 'Green Bible' ( printed on recycled paper with soy ink and a sustainable linen cover ) is quoted as saying "Anything that gets people to read the Bible is a good thing." Sounds perfectly acceptable. But then, what I would say is that no matter how you fancy up a bible's outward appearance, and the message inside has not been tampered with, then a person bent on living their own life will not be changed by explosive graphics and shiny pages.

It is naive to think that making the bible classy, will change the heart of a man or woman, only Holy Spirit opening the eyes of an unbeliever can do that, only agreeing in faith that Christ died for our sins, so that we can be made righteous before God  can do that.  So why do we insist then, on helping God, by making Godly things more world-like?

Thoughts? Comments?

The other thing that seems to bug me in the logo. It's probably me over-thinking things.  The logo represents the eye I assume, and reminds my of the eye in the pyramid.

Another observation - the placement of their eye-con is strategically placed on the teen's eyebrow. It uncannily resemble eyebrow rings - it can be said about this product that it is cleverly designed! And indeed very modern.

2. I've come away from this more determined not to let the enemy tell me what to think.
3. Grace depicted as a dog. I thought I'd never see it!
4. If my father thinks what he did to me was discipline. I don't want God's discipline.
5. If my father thinks what he did to me was love. I don't want God altogether!

All A-Slaver

I am a fan of the allegory 'Pilgrim's Progress'.   You can buy it here.

In the year of 2000 I embarked on Master's Commission - this is a course that seeks to find people prepared to take a year out of general life and dedicate ones self solely to God. It was a tough year, but one that will stay in my memory for as long as I live. One of the things we had to do was keep a journal. We had to write in it 3 days a week. It is from my first journal that the following extracts are taken - written in the form of an allegory. The allegory starts with me beginning a journey into the dark recesses of Mylife Jungle, my mission to seek the sin in my life and expel it.

As for my confession today? It will become apparent through the tale.

You are welcome just to read it on your own or press play and follow the words below as I give the tale my voice.

(Extract taken from pages 21-23 of Journal One)

Master’s Commission 13/03/00

Part I, The Dark Assailant.

I come across a barrel by the wayside? “What’s in it?” I wonder.

“Salt.” Holy Spirit says. “Collect some of it in the satchel there provided, and then tie it around your waist.” It is it unwise to disobey, so I do as I am asked...

Soon after I come upon a rather sinister cottage, it doesn't look inviting, all is deathly silent. I am curious about it though, and this cottage is in Mylife jungle so perhaps its something that will highlight a problem that I will have to deal with - I sheath my sword, go through the gate and quietly open the cottage door.

It is dark inside the hut and smells of sticky dampness. My footing slips and I look down. The daylight streaming in through the doorway gives the floor a sheen. But then I crouch down for a closer look. No, the floor was all a-slaver. I pull off a glove and take a sample of the wetness with my finger; I gingerly bring it to my nostrils. Oer! On my armour I hurriedly wipe clean my finger and put back on the glove. The stuff on the floor was saliva! But what could possibly dribble litres of slobber all through the place…?

I don’t see it coming and before I can make scene of it I am pitched sharply to the left by an incredible force, I lift high off the floor, slam into a wall and crumble to the moist ground. Thanks to my armour I am only temporarily stunned, but I don’t know how many more of those hits I can take? I decide that I am going know about it, because I find myself sliding fast across the floor like a squat in a game of curling – only here the pins are wooden chairs. I struggle to my feet. Metal plating on slippery tile makes simply getting up a chore.

I cannot tell who or what is attacking me. I try to focus in on my adversary I am expecting something huge to come out of the shadows and reveal itself, then I am struck by a thought … Can it be invisible?

Now whatever it is begins speaking!? Its voice did not boom loudly or rattle glass like I would have expected something of that great strength to do, but rather its voice reminded me of a Chihuahua, small and piercing. I change my focus, and find a moving shape. It is not large at all! it is small, about knee high. It certainly wasn’t human; from what I can make out it is a wet, misshapen sort of a blob??
I could not believe that something seemingly insignificant could throw me around the room like it had been. Suddenly it charges slamming into my breastplate; again I sail through air. Okay, okay I believe it! I fly out the doorway this time, and into the forest outside…

Part II, The Blue-Cloaked Benefactor.

(Extract taken from pages 24,25 of Journal One)

Master’s Commission 11/03/00

…Battered and sore I sit up and look back at the cottage. Framed in the doorway is the little blob. It starts assailing me with filthy language and disparaging comment. The blob starts to glow! It comes out into the light. I gape at the creature - it is out of this world! no eyes, no nose, no ears, all it has is a mouth. Its shape reminds me of a surfboard and similar in appearance to that of soft crinkly rubber, red and warn out. Like small waterfalls spittle runs down it. It glides along the dirt toward me leaving an ooze-trail of saliva in its wake. It barrages me again with put-downs and vicious criticism; defaming my name and smearing my character; it glows more the brighter as it cusses and curses - the thing gets hotter and hotter. It begins to steam, but it gets worse! The trail of ooze behind it ignites into flame as if it is petroleum and not slobber, I stand, but I don’t know how to fight this thing, its out of control! I should have run but now it's too late it's in my face and at each word of malign slander it strikes me hard. Time after time I clatter against rock and tree. I am beaten up and beaten up good. I lie still and can barely move. I roll onto my back and black out.

*

Smoke is irritating my nostrils. I begin to cough and jolt into consciousness. I see the ring of fire, and then that the ring of fire is circled around me and in the circle with me is the red slob. So much damage, to me and my surroundings, on the account of something so small, is there any way this thing can be tamed? My question is punctuated by a blonde, blue-cloaked figure bursting through the wall of flame. I am confounded, he is shrieking! I look and see that the tail end of his cape erupts into fire. Panicking he stomps out the flame with one of his brown leather boots. I am still staring at this character forgetting about my immediate predicament, when he straightens himself dusts off ash and looks at me with a crocked smile.

“At last there you are!” He is a tall, thin man and dressed as though he had come out of the middle-ages.

“Where did you come from?”

“The Hills.”

“And, you know me?” I stammer.

“Of you, yes. I’ve been appointed to help you through this mess of yours. I will be your friend and confidant.”

“Do I get a say in this?”

He pats my shoulder “I do not think now is the time to argue. The tongue is powering up again.”

“Tongue?!?”

The small red surfboard shaped blob certainly resembled a tongue now that I look at it, and is indeed powering up. It turns redder than I’d seen it turn before! It blows up its cheeks (if that is what they are) and spits at us! My blue-cloaked benefactor throws himself onto me, we hit the dust. The blob’s spit is not ordinary it is literally a fire ball. We roll out of the way of several other pot-shots and get to our feet as fast as possible. I am getting very hot in all this armour in the middle of a fire ring, but I must not take it off.

“Quickly,” said the blue-cloaked blonde, open the satchel at your waist!” baffled at the request I open it.

“What’s salt going to do?” I ask. The man grabs a handful of the coarse white powder.

“The tongue represents your speech and must be seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6).

“My speech?”

“This is your tongue Flegma, and this is exactly what you do. You beat yourself up! You put yourself down, you so often criticise yourself, you defame your name and smear your character. You think that somehow how slandering yourself appeases the problem.”

I said nothing.

“But it does not help does it, it only hurts your more and more.”

I feel a tear prickle my eye. He was absolutely right and I knew it.

“Watch what happens.” Just as the blob is about to fire another flame ball, my rescuer throws the salt at the beast. The beast that is my tongue.

My tongue stops and swallows the hot bile it was about to fling at us, Its fiery demeanour begins to subside changing back down to a more friendly red.

“It is cooling off.”

The ring of fire drops away only singed grass particle remains. My tongue becomes childlike, the edges of its mouth turns up into a smile and it begins to dance and prance, whirl and swirl. Like a puppy it comes close and rubs itself over us, appreciatively.

“Aah,” I look at the blue-cloaked blonde uncertainly.

"Perhaps," he shrugged, "I used more salt than I needed too."

Deceived Woman in Surburbia

(Photoree is currently updating. Will put up an image later)

Somethin' (a bit serious) Saturday.

Catholic Church tells Medium Moreen Hancock  that talking to the dead is a gift of the Holy Spirit!?

There is plenty of scripture that would defuse this idea.

In 2 Chronicles 33:6 consulting mediums and spiritists provoke the Lord and is evil in His sight. Consulting one of these people is evil in God's sight let alone being one!

Matthew 6:23 says
But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light within you is darkness—how deep is that darkness!

Even Simon the Magician in Acts 8 never claimed that his sorcery was a gift of the Holy Spirit. He knew the two were not the same - indeed he tried to pay for the power of Holy Spirit.

Moreen Hancock has her own show now 'Psychic in Suburbia'.

God's Insect World.

Thumbs up for ladybugs!
Until the 24th of November Thursday's are free. Today I thought I'd fill in the gap with this little story.

Coming home from the park today, I had unwittingly carried with me a passenger. A red ladybug.

I rescued it from my shoulder and took it outside.

I found a plant to offload it onto and stopped. I just stood there and watched this little creature on my hand. It had started cleaning itself. I have seen flies clean themselves - an oxymoron if ever I've heard one - but I have never witnessed a little ladybug clean it's tiny-teeny fore-legs. I found myself marveling at this creation (not specimen of evolution). A lovingly fashioned member of God's insect world.

Two Memories

What's the urinal for? It will come apparent.

One of the first blogs I checked out through Faithful Bloggers was one named the Surrendered Scribe. The authoress has a feature called 'Character Confessions'. The article I read was titled Mean Girls. Julie relates a time when she was mean - not outwardly, but on her mind. The article got me to thinking about bullying.

The vlog below relates stories in my life when I was on the receiving end. And how I responded.

This is the first video I filmed for Not Quite Dead.
